needing a change...

after working with a lot of people over the last couple of years, i've come to realize that most of those people are afraid of change. rarely do you come across the person that just dives in and says, "yeah! let's do this. right now." most of my clientele wants blond highlights, not that there is anything wrong with that. but occasionally i get someone like joy, who wants to do a completely different look than what she normally does. this always gets me really excited, i'm all about big changes, but only if you're ready. on numerous occasions i have witnessed friends of mine impulsively cut off the long hair they've had since they were adolescents. a hugely important piece of advice, if it's a really drastic color change or cut, think about it for a few days.
back to joy, she's been blond her whole life, and one day decided that she needed a change. it's amazing what changing your hair can do for your self-confidence and attitude. and since joy wanted to go dark brown from blond, first we colored her blond hair to a light brown so that the dark color would have something to grab onto. this is hugely important when you are going more than 3 shades darker. if you go from platinum blond to a dark chocolate brown in only one step, you're hair WILL turn gray or green. BLONDIE'S, are you listening?! i hope so.
so it took a little longer with the 2 steps, but resulted in much richer color. she was very happy with the result and i think it suits her really well! i told joy, to keep color longer, be sure that you don't shampoo with water that's too hot, it is one of the main culprits that causes color fade; also, shampoo every 2 or 3 days. your hair does not need to be lathered up every day. so until next time, don't scald or soak your hair with suds in the shower! and try lukewarm water, your hair will thank you.
